June 25, 2026 6:30pm-8:00pm How Getting Strong for Skiing Makes Skiing Better with Hilary McCloy at North Conway Museum

Description: Skiing is a sport we simply enjoy: we gather our equipment each season, jump on the lift and ski down.  But what if in the fall, you started thinking about getting your body ready for the ski season?  This is a habit that people often don’t create when they start skiing, which is a missed opportunity.  As a Physical Therapist and US Ski Team alumnus, Hilary has had the privilege of being very prepared for ski season regarding strength and conditioning.  She knows that being strong in the right ways will allow her to turn more easily, maneuver through terrain and take longer to fatigue.  But doing the work beforehand is hard, so that is where she can help you. This talk will explain how our bodies work while skiing, which muscles need to be strong to resist gravity and how increased strength can reduce injury.

August 13, 2026 6:30pm-8:00pm Nansen Ski Jump; Past, Present, and Future with Scott Halvorson and Shawn Costello at North Conway Museum

Description: Join us for a presentation glimpsing into the history of the “oldest ski club” in the country, showcasing its heritage, achievements and its resurrection. The Nansen Ski Jump (aka Big Nansen), the largest steel towered jump in the world, when completed in 1937, hosted every meaningful ski jumping event in the country for decades, before being shut down in 1985, and coming oh so close to being gone forever. It’s being resurrected! This presentation hopes to give a glimpse into this history and the history that we hope to make going forward.
